As the United Nations 80th General Assembly drew to a close, Refuge America proudly hosted Welcomers 2025, bringing together community members, allies, and LGBTQIA+ newcomers to celebrate resilience, belonging, and the power of human connection.

Welcomers 2025 reminded us that welcome is not just a word—it’s an action. Thank you to everyone who joined, supported, and shared in this vision. Together, we’re building a stronger, more compassionate nation for displaced LGBTQIA+ people.

We awarded the Courage Award to Amir Ashour, presented by Dan Friedman, in recognition of Amir’s courage, vision, and unwavering fight for dignity and justice for LGBTQ people everywhere. His leadership reminds us that safety and welcome are not privileges—they are rights.

Your presence and participation reaffirm that our work is not just about organizing, but about building lasting community, amplifying voices, and creating real impact for those seeking safety and dignity.
