Empowering Ordinary Americans to Create Safe Havens.

On Tuesday June 13th 2023, Refuge America gathered with supporters, friends, and partners to celebrate the launch of Refuge America's U.S. LGBTQ welcoming program.

Our U.S. welcome program is laying the groundwork to scale community sponsorship of LGBTQ refugees to the United States by working to make the new welcome corps program pathway accessible to LGBTQ refugees on an equitable basis. Refuge America is partnering with the U.S. government and resettlement agencies to welcome LGBTQ refugees.

Bringing LGBTQ refugees to the U.S.

To bring LGBTQ refugees to the U.S., Refuge America is exploring the use of welcome corps community sponsorship opportunities. We are going to train Private Sponsorship Groups (PSG), five volunteers who will help foster community of care for new LGBTQ refugees who are already in the U.S. pipeline for resettlement, expediting their opportunity to find a new home free of persecution

Our goal is to support at least 25 refugees and displaced LGBTQI people to relocate to the United States over the next year, with the support of our partners, volunteers, donors, and the U.S. Government. In tandem, we know a necessary step will be working with partners to advocate to break down the barriers that prevent LGBTQ refugees from accessing relocation opportunities.

The launch event was hosted by Refuge America’s founder Edafe Okporo, and board members. We saw continued support from advocates across the LGBTQ community. It is time for the U.S. to make sponsorship accessible to everyone, and we at Refuge America are making sure no one is left behind.

Our goal is to help as many people as possible to find safety from persecution, please join us by giving to our campaign today link
